On the 7th of December 2017 the project partners met at the premises of the GMBU e.V. in Halle and they presented the current status of their respective work packages and used the chance for subsequent discussions. Mr. Martin Erdmann, guest of the BGR, was also present.
The next meeting will be on March 5th, 2018 at GUB (Leipzig).
The LIAN-Colloquium “New methods and materials for the energy and environmental technology” took place at the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau on the 9th of November 2017.
Dr. Hüls presented the current “Investigations of an environmentally sustainable method for the extraction and processing of Rare Earth Elements” at the conference.

This year´s 14th International Miningforum (Galerie) took place on the 1st and 2nd of June 2017 in Berlin, Germany.
At the conference Dr. Hüls presented the current “Development of an environmentally sustainable method for the extraction and processing of Rare Earth Elements”.

The 14th Miningforum will be taking place on the 1st and 2nd of June 2017 in Berlin, Germany. The spectrum includes participants and speakers from all over Europe. The talks are complemented by an exhibition area that offers companies a platform to present their products and services to high-profile decision makers and experts.
Dr.s Wilfried Hüls and Romy Matthies will be participating at the conference with their talk on the ”Development of an environmentally sustainable method for the extraction and processing of Rare Earth Elements”.
The fourth project workshop will take place June 07th 2017 at the premises of the G.U.B. Ingenieur AG in Lauta. The project partners will present the current status of their respective work packages and discuss subsequent project steps.
At the end of August, a new triaxial test cell has been installed at the GUB premises in Lauta. With this tool, REE-rich laterite samples from Madagascar are fractured by exposing them to compressed nitrogen gas. It is anticipated that an increase in permeability and porosity of the laterites may facilitate the influx of leaching media and thus improve the mobilization and recovery of the REE.
The BGR in Hannover will host this years’ r4 conference in which the research projects funded through the BMBF r4 programme Innovative Technologies for Resource Efficiency will be presented. The event will take place on the 20th and 21st of October 2016.
SEM² presented by Dr. Matthies won the third prize at the Best Poster Award.
This year’s International Mine Water Conference (imwa2016.com) took place in the week from the 11th to the 15th of July in Leipzig, Germany. The research project SEM² was presented by Romy Matthies as part of a poster presentation.
